Language and Literature Foundations 4th-6th
COURSE: Language and Literature Foundations DESCRIPTION: This engaging course, designed for students in grades 4 through 6, focuses on building grammar, vocabulary, and writing skills through history-inspired lessons and exciting literature. Students will also learn key writing techniques using principles from the Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW). Weekly writing and grammar assignments will be given, and students should expect to spend 3-4 hours of work outside of class each week. Note, this class will meet two days per week: in-person on Wednesdays and virtually on Thursdays (or another day TBD based on student availability) for supplemental learning. CLASS FEE: $200.00 per student per semester (due September 10, 2025, and January 14, 2026) OR $55 per student per month (due on the 5th from September 2025 through April 2025)–payable by PayPal, CashApp, or Zelle. SUPPLY FEE: $25.00 supply fee per student per semester (due October 1, 2025 and January 21, 2026) MATERIALS PROVIDED: Enrolled students will receive the following: 1. Homework Folder: a homework folder to receive and submit weekly assignments (which must be brought to each class). 2. Daily Grammar: grammar packets will be distributed to students to complete daily in between classes and turn in the following week. REQUIRED MATERIALS (Parents will need to acquire the following items which students will need to bring to each class): 1. Fix It! Grammar Level 2 Student Workbook by IEW 2. Empires and Warriors: African History-Based Writing Lessons by Melissa Wakhu (this digital workbook must be printed and placed in a 3-ring binder—can be done by instructor for additional supply fee to cover printing and binder upon request) 3. Paper or 1-subject notebook for notes 4. Writing utensils Minimum number of students is 4 and maximum is 8. |
