The purpose of this course is to provide students with the necessary information to answer this question. The Unfinished Nation is a one year American history survey course. Students will begin with the Colonial Period and end with the present day. We will use the text, primary documents, and current events to navigate the answer to our class question. As we approach each new era of American history and development, students will be able to identify and analyze how the American identity has evolved for all of the groups that are an important part of the history of our great nation. The class will include lecture and note taking, class discussions and student presentations. Texts and Materials: 1. General Course Objectives: Students will participate in the comprehensive study of major events and themes in United States History. We will begin with European colonization and examine major events and themes throughout United States history. In this class students will: $35 Supply Fee per semester. TUITION: $55/month from September to April | or $200 per semester (Due September 10 and January 7th. Former students get a discount on the monthly tuition. 1. Describe European settlement in North America during the 17th century. 2. Identify the ideological and diplomatic aspects of the American Revolution. 3. Explain the events and key ideas behind the adoption of the U.S. Constitution. 4. Analyze the important consequences of American territorial, population & industrial growth. 5. Describe the economic, social and geographic impact of the growth of big business and technological innovations after Reconstruction. 6. Identify the following major events, causes & effects on American government & society. a. Civil War, Reconstruction, Progressive Reform Era, WWI, the New Deal, WWII, Cold War, Civil Rights and Social Change movements, 9/11, America’s War on Terror, 7. Describe changes in national politics since 1968 8. Analyze U.S. international and domestic policies including their influences on technological advancements and social changes during the Nixon, Ford, and Carter administrations. 9. Assess the political, economic, and technological changes during the Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Clinton, George W. Bush, and Obama administrations. $35 Supply Fee per semester.
