Physical Science (Middle and High School)

This 9-month class will introduce and explore the fundamental concepts of matter, energy, forces, motion, and waves. It will also explore the fundamental concepts of physics and chemistry.

We will learn these aspects from reading assignments, lectures, and experiments. The class core concepts include:

• Matter and Energy: Explore the properties of matter, including its states, composition, and structure (atoms, elements, compounds). Learn about different forms of energy and how it interacts with matter.
• Physics Fundamentals: Cover motion, forces, Newton’s laws, energy, work, and waves (sound, light, and electromagnetic waves).
• Chemistry Fundamentals: Learn about chemical reactions, chemical bonding, and the periodic table.
• Scientific Method: Explore observation, experimentation, data collection, analysis, and drawing conclusions.
• Laboratory Skills: Develop essential laboratory skills through hands-on experiments and investigations.

• Provide students with a foundational understanding of physical science concepts
• Help students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills through scientific inquiry
• Prepare students for further study in physics, chemistry, and other STEM fields
• Help students understand the role of science in everyday life
